NEWS:
Cedar Hills Crossing is First Shopping Center in Oregon to
Provide Free Wi-Fi Access to Shoppers
Cedar Hills Crossing is
now Beaverton’s central and newest ‘hot spot’! Shoppers
never have to be out of touch, you can stay connected
while shopping or dining.
“This capability
empowers customers as a key access point in the heart of
Beaverton and in Washington County,” says Nigel Ballard,
an advisor for the Personal Telco Project, a
Portland-area, volunteer-based networking group that
provided technical support during the installation of the
nodes throughout Cedar Hills Crossing. “Shoppers and
visitors can be fully connected. For example, parents can
bring their teens to shop and the parents don’t ever have
to be out of touch. They can be connected and
productive.” The open connection is the result of the
installation of multiple 802.11 nodes (“Wi-Fi”) that
provide free wireless internet connectivity for Cedar
Hills Crossing shoppers and merchants.
Technical
capabilities include high-speed DSL with 1.5 megabit
downloading speeds. There is full support for both 802.11b
and 802.11g Wi-Fi standards, and Internet access is free
and unlimited. The wireless signal covers most of the the area inside Cedar Hills Crossing.
Last year Portland was
named “Hottest" in Intel’s first “Most
Unwired Cities” survey. According to Ballard,
“Portland claims a leadership position for leading the
nation in mobile computing with the most access points for
wireless connectivity.” Cedar Hills Crossing has taken a
similar position in the Shopping Center industry.
Cedar Hills
Crossing is a 750,000-square-foot, suburban shopping
district offering space for 60+ retail, restaurant, office
and entertainment establishments. Besides Wi-Fi access,
other recent arrivals include McGrath’s Fish House, PacSun,
Golf Galaxy, Bugatti's and Century Theatre, a new 16 screen, state-of-the-art
THX certified
theater complex.
Located at the
crossroads of Millikan, Hall, Jenkins, Walker and Cedar
Hills Boulevard, the former Beaverton Mall is anchored by
New Seasons Market, Best Buy, Borders, Joe’s,
Powell's Books, Old Navy, Winco Foods, and Ross Dress for Less. Cedar Hills
Crossing is the west side’s premier shopping destination
where visitors can shop, eat, play and enjoy free wireless
internet access. |
